I'm Proudly in the 47% that Romney Disdains.

Are you in the 47% of Americans labeled as selfish "victims" by Mitt Romney? Do you like Romney essentially calling you a "leach" by saying half the country feels "entitled" to "health care, food, house...to you name it" by Mitt Romney in this 30 second video? Do you think you fail to take personal responsibility for your life? If not, stand up to Romney's callousness and vote for President Obama!!

It's ironic that he says the middle-class feels "entitled" when Romney thinks he's entitled to pays a lower tax rate than someone making an average salary!!  Mitt Romney is so out of touch with average Americans, but now we are learning that he has actual disdain for many of us. He looks less like the guy who will hire you than the guy who will fire you. Well, on November 6th, we'll all have a chance to fire Mitt Romney!!

Mitt Romney "Harvested" Companies for Profit. Often at the Expense of Jobs at Those Companies.

Kind of like how a vampire harvests the blood from a victim. Romney hollowed out these companies of their assets, which often saw the collapse of that company, and the ones left to pick up the pieces were all the former employees who relied upon jobs at those companies. Romney has every right to be a private-equity guy but I can't let him claim that creating jobs was the goal of Bain Capital. It wasn't. The goal was to make money by essentially, "recycling" companies for their scrap value.

You can call it capitalism or immoral but you certainly can't call it a "record of creating jobs" as Romney does. Then again, I guess I'm just one of those "leeches" that makes up the 47% of Americans that Romney disdains. Lord Romney seems to think that middle-America, 47% of us, are pitiful serfs who are feel entitled to scraps from his gold-laden table. You want to talk about entitlement? Look no further than Romney acting like he's entitled to the presidency because he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and to a political family!!

Manufacturing Jobs Returning, Consumer Confidence is Up, and Home Prices are Up.

This from By Agence France-PresseWatch out China and Canada, “Made in America” has an attractive ring to it these days. Four years after the height of the financial crisis, marked by a drastic drop in salaries, the United States is again finding favor among manufacturers. American workers are getting more and more efficient. Companies located here are becoming more and more competitive. So for a lot of businesses, it’s now starting to make sense to bring jobs back home. According to a Boston Consulting Group survey and referenced by Obama, 48 percent of executives at companies with $10 billion or more in revenues said they plan to bring back production to the United States from China — or are considering it.
This is a huge boost for blue-collar, middle-class workers who have been hit the hardest by the Great Recession. Especially because it isn't just one company, but many and it reflects a trend, which means long-term stability and growth. Combine this news with the success of the Obama auto loans that saved the American auto industry and the middle-class is roaring back!!

Blue-collar workers are the back-bone of this economy and that's something that hedge-fund elitists like Mitt Romney don't understand. Romney's entire campaign is dependent upon the economy crashing, and in some respects it makes him look as though he's rooting for bad, economic news. Well, don't ever bet against the American worker!! But, it's not just workers that are feeling better about economic opportunities. In a new article By CHRISTOPHER S. RUGABER and ANNE D'INNOCENZIO, consumers are feeling more confident to spend again:
A new survey of consumer confidence rose Tuesday to its highest level since February on expectations that hiring will soon pick up.
This is a key indicator because when people decide to purchase new products it increases demand, which in turn increases demand for new workers. Thus, new jobs are created. Of course, President Obama can't take credit for all of these good indicators, but it certainly weakens Romney's thesis that Obama is making things worse. One finally indicator that's improved is housing, which was hit hard when the Great Recession kicked-off under President George W. Bush:
National home prices rose 1.2 percent in July compared with a year ago, according to the Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller index released Tuesday. That was the second straight month in which year-over-year home prices have increased. According to the same article by Christopher S. Rugaber and Anne D'Innocenzio.
Increased housing prices means American home-owners are seeing their house, (often their biggest asset) increase again in worth. That gives them some confidence to go out and purchase products again!! The economy is a bit like a self-perpetuating machine, which needs some time to pick up steam, but when it does it often takes off like a rocket. So, don't believe Romney that everything is "doom and gloom." America is coming back and a new day is dawning on the horizon. Don't let Romney rain on the American workers!!

Republicans "Support the Troops" by Voting Against a Jobs Bill for Veterans? WTF?

Republicans love to wrap themselves in the flag and talk tough about war while claiming Democrats don't support our men and women in the military. Yet, while they slap yellow ribbon magnets on their cars, and sing patriotic songs, Democrats quietly work to establish programs to help veterans transition to civilian life. Democrats believe it's easy to support our soldiers when they are abroad by waving the flag. We're just as proud of them as the Republicans. But, we know that enduring support for our veterans must come with a commitment to pay any price to give them all the health care, jobs assistance and education they deserve.

We Democrats believe that support for our troops means putting their needs and services above political ideology, which is why the Republican denial of this veterans jobs bill makes my stomach churn with disdain. What could be more important to America than the men and women who ensure democratic politics is possible in the first place?!!

As if the Republicans actions weren't horrible enough, we literally have veterans who are dying for help. Every 80 seconds, a U.S. military veteran dies by suicide. Seriously. We have an epidemic of suicide, yet have you heard about it on the news? It should be the number one story every night on the news. It is obvious our proud heroes in uniform are suffering mentally and it is not their failing to suffer. It is, however, our failing to not support them in dealing with their psychological trauma.

Imagine what a jobs bill like the one shamefully denied by Republicans could do for our unemployed veterans? The bill would have made it easier for veterans to find jobs within our police services, and forest service. It seems that alone could save a lot of lives. A career in law enforcement allows them to use some of the same training they proudly acquired on the battle-field while giving them a renewed sense of purpose. Shame on you, Republicans, and shame on Mitt Romney for not mentioning our soldiers still fighting for us in Afghanistan during the 2012 Republican National Convention.

The 47% of Americans that Romney Attacked for Paying Few Taxes are Often Republican.

By now most of you have probably heard about Romney dismissing 47% of the country as free-loaders and dead-beats for not paying enough taxes. This coming from a guy who won't release but one year of tax returns. He's also a guy who has only paid 13% in taxes himself, which is much less than many Americans pay. The irony of his statements, however, are that they attack the very Republicans he needs on his side: seniors and poor, white, male, working class voters. According to  Andy Sullivan with "Yahoo! News":
The "47 percent" aren't just low-income city dwellers who rely on food stamps, housing support and other programs that traditionally have been championed by Democrats. Many are retirees and working-class white voters who are wary of government's role in their lives and who have tended to vote for Republicans in recent years, even as they take advantage of tax credits and government assistance.
How many are Republican voters? Well, according to an article by Brian LoGiurato with Business Insider, "Out of the 10 states with the highest percentage of filers with no liability, all but one — Florida — are reliable Republican stalwarts. Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/mitt-romney-47-percent-no-income-tax-map-red-republican-states-2012-9#ixzz26w0mQrjM

Romney is so clueless that he doesn't even understand his own base of supporters!! He has just told them that while he, Romney, does everything he can to avoid paying taxes, it's they, the "47% Republicans" who are dead-beats on taxes!! Wow. He has no idea that these people still pay sales tax for food, which is a regressive tax.
A value added tax or sales tax on food and other essentials such as clothing, transport, and residential rents can be regressive. Since the income elasticity of demand of food is usually less than 1 (inelastic) (see ,Engel's lawit tends to take up a higher percentage of the budget of a person or family with a lower income.
Mitt Romney puts his foot in his mouth so often that, by now, he must have his entire right leg down his throat!! Even though President Obama is pulling ahead in the polls, this is no time to back-off. We must keep the pressure on Romney and finish this election strong!! Time to double our efforts and finally be rid of Mitt, "Thurston Howell III" Romney!!

Romney Insults Half of the Country Over Tax Remarks.

I read an outrageous revelation from an article by Michael Tomasky for "The Daily Beast new site. Apparently, after the Republican primary process, Mitt Romney spoke in front of fundraisers to essentially label half the country as dead-beats, which are people who try to avoid paying debts:
There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what ... These are people who pay no income tax.
His conclusion is that these people are leaches. In other words, your grandmother is a dead-beat, according to Mitt Romney. Your wife wasting away from cancer who needs government assistance to pay medical bills, is a dead beat in Romney's world. The sad irony is that those 47% pay more taxes than Mitt "tax dodger" Romney!! According to Tomasky, "The average person pays more in mere payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare (15.3 percent) than Romney paid in total taxes for the year he released his returns (13.9 percent)."

In addition, these "dead beats" pay sales tax on basic necessities like food. Maybe if so-called "job creators" like Mitt Romney paid people a living wage rather than liquidate their companies to send their jobs over-seas, people would have more money in their pocket!! Romney is such a callous man with a cold heart made of coal. It makes me wonder if Romney's only reason for wanting the presidency is because he's a rich man without nothing else to do, and the American presidency is on his "bucket list." That, and making sure the rich suck even more money out of the American economy. He's a vampire capitalist with nothing but disdain for "the masses."

Romney Adviser Claims Romney Would Have Prevented Ambassador's Death in Libya.

From Benj Sarlin for Talking Points Memo:
A top foreign policy aide to Mitt Romney suggested Thursday that the deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens would never have happened if Romney were president. “There’s a pretty compelling story that if you had a President Romney, you’d be in a different situation,” Romney adviser Richard Williamson told the Washington Post.“For the first time since Jimmy Carter, we’ve had an American ambassador assassinated.”
I know all of you at the Romney campaign are desperate, but now it's just getting laughable!! That is one of the most absurd statements I've heard from a modern political campaign. And I suppose Romney would have prevented Peyton Manning from being traded to the Denver Broncos? What else is "Superman Romney" able to prevent? Cancer? Will he put soda pop in the drinking fountains and pave the streets with gold? Maybe he'll be able to shift incoming asteroids from hitting Earth by using the sun's glare off his greasy hair to incinerate them!! The Romney campaign is becoming amateur hour at the comedy club.

It's like Romney's ridiculous claim that he could do something different to slow Iran's nuclear ambitions than President Obama is already doing. The only thing that President Obama isn't doing to prevent a nuclear Iran is waging war, so it sounds like Romney wants to have America invade Iran. Are ready to fight a third war? Never fear, no American will have to die because apparently Romney has "super powers." Yes, "Super Romney" will simply invade Iran by himself and defeat Iran's military with his bare knuckles!! Then, when he finds the nuclear weapons, he'll snap his fingers and they'll magically turn into doves flying into the blue sky, as world peace dawns on Earth.

If, however, you live in the real world then you'd better support President Obama because the other guy is borderline delusional.

Romney-Ryan Criticize Obama Foreign Policy Without Sharing Their Own Plan.

It sure is sadly ironic to hear Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan criticize President Obama on foreign policy when they can't tell you what they'd do differently than the president. Romney says he'd get tougher with Iran, but Obama has already united countries to impose crippling sanctions on the rogue, Middle-Eastern country. The only way I can see Romney being tougher than Obama on Iran would be to bomb or invade Iran. Anyone think that's a good idea after Iraq?

They keep saying he "weak on terrorism." Well, ask Osama bin Laden and Muammar al-Gaddafi if they think Obama has been "weak." Plus, President Obama keeps a "kill list" of terrorists and al-Qaeda leaders to take down. As reported by Peter Bergen for CNN, "Under President Barack Obama, CIA drone strikes have killed 15 of the most important players in al Qaeda, according to a count maintained by the New America Foundation (a nonpartisan think tank where I am a director)."

Those aren't the actions of a "weak" leader!! Romney can't match that record of accomplishment, nor can he even portray a credible image of a commander-in-chief. For example, look at how poorly he handled the response to the attacks on our embassies in Libya and Egypt. This is not the kind of performance that engenders confidence, nor is the kind of actions expected in someone who claims to be able to do better than the sitting president!!

Obama Isn't to Blame for Embassy Violence in Libya and Egypt.

In a desperate act to avoid scrutiny for Romney's missteps over the protests and violence at the Libya and Egypt embassies, his campaign is trying to blame President Obama. They are trying to make the case that Obama is to blame for the chaos in these countries because he supported the recent "Arab Spring" up-risings that toppled dictatorships from Libya to Yemen. It's a ridiculous notion because no president has much control over protests in America, let alone in the Middle-East!! What do they think he can do, fly over to Egypt and Libya, walk out into the protesting crowds and ask them nicely if they'd stop? Ridiculous.

Or maybe since Romney is so quick to go to war with Iran that he expects President Obama to bomb these places? Either action is so absurd that it really makes me worry about how a Romney presidency would respond to international crises. It seems like Republicans only have a hammer when it comes to foreign policy, and when you only have a hammer in your tool box, every problem looks like a nail. You can't just talk tough and bomb any country that we think deserves it!! That's what got us into trouble with Iraq!!

It's scary to think that Romney has essentially the same foreign policy positions as President George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. And it's no wonder as many of Romney foreign policy, "advisers" are hold-overs from the George W. Bush presidency!! Romney is out of his league with foreign policy. In this dangerous and chaotic world, it's better to have someone experienced in the job like President Obama.

Romney Misses his "3 A.M. Phone Call."

Remember back in 2008 when Hillary Clinton spoke of how a president must be ready for an emergency at any minute or hour of the night and day? She spoke of how a president must be able to answer a "3 A.M. phone call" and not stumble despite the chaos of the moment. Well, Mitt Romney's response to the death of an American ambassador to Libya and the protests in Egypt was his "3 A.M. phone call" and he bungled it. It wasn't simply a mistake of tact, but even worse, he had the chronology wrong!! Here is how the events unfolded:

6:17 A.M. September 11th: In the wake of angry protests in Egypt over a bigoted, American film about Islam, the U.S. embassy in Cairo, Egypt released a statement to try and quell the vitriol directed at the embassy. It said that the American embassy in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims.

Around 12 P.M. September 11th: The walls of the U.S. embassy in Cairo were breached by protesters and an American flag ripped down.

Around 10 P.M. September 11th: Secretary Clinton speaks out condemning the violence at the U.S. embassy in Cairo.

10:09 P.M. September 11th: Mitt Romney released a statement saying, "It's disgraceful that the Obama administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks."

12:01 A.M. September 12th: Republican National Committee leader tweets, "Obama sympathizes with attacks in Egypt. Sad and pathetic."

6 A.M. September 12th: The Associated Press news agency is the first to report that the American ambassador in Libya was killed.

TPJ: First of all, the Cairo embassy statement was not cleared by The White House, but secondly, it was in response to protests well before any embassy was breached. Secondly, when the embassy was breached, Secretary of State Clinton condemned that attacks. Romney either completely ignored Secretary Clinton's statement of condemnation or worse, missed it.

Either way, it's a glaring example of failed leadership. Romney spoke before our currently elected commander-in-chief to condemn him and his administration. The reason Obama was waiting was because not all the details were yet known. You don't shoot first, and ask questions latter!! A president puts lives in jeopardy by acting before all the details are known.

So, to sound off without all the details like Romney did shows his lack of leadership and lack of an ability to be patient and wait for all the information to come in before making snap decisions. Remember the last time we had a president who acted before knowing all the details? Need I remind everyone of President George W. Bush attacking Iraq despite not knowing that there weren't any weapons of mass destruction there? Romney doesn't have the cool, calm and collected mind of President Obama. If he can't handle basic chronology of events, then how can we trust him not to lead this country down another foreign policy rabbit hole? So, in those crisis moments, do you really want a hot-head again making those decisions? I sure don't.

Romney Politicizes Libya Attacks.

On Wednesday morning, hours after the deaths of four U.S. diplomats, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya, Mitt Romney put his campaign on the line by attacking President Barack Obama and the besieged diplomats in the Middle East.
Romney, in a statement released Tuesday night, had called the president's handling of the Libya and Egypt attacks "disgraceful." "When our grounds are being attacked, and being breached, that the first response of the United States must be outrage at the breach of the sovereignty of our nation. And apology for America's values is never the right course," he said.
Romney's reference to an "apology for America's values" was directed at a statement the U.S. Embassy in Cairo put out on Tuesday morning, but that statement, which was itself responding to the outrage over the anti-Islamic film was issued before the embassy was attacked, despite Romney's statement to the contrary. What's more, the statement does not apologize for America's values, but rather supports a founding American value, religious tolerance, while referencing the "universal right of free speech." Read the statement in full "here."
TPJ: Of course we stand for "freedom on speech" but we also stand for religious tolerance. Of all the sleazy attacks from Romney this election, this one is particularly offensive because he's attacking our diplomatic core which serves presidents regardless of party. This was a horrid attack on America and is not a time for political grand-standing and cheap shots. This is not an issue to use for political attacks and it just underlines how desperate they have come to win the election at all costs. Politicizing the death of our ambassador to Libya on the day following 9/11 is not leadership, but rather a cheap-shot. The juxtaposition between yesterday's national unity on the anniversary on 9/11 with today's cheap shot from Romney couldn't be worse.

Romney Criticizes Obama on Jobs Despite Republicans Blocking Obama Job's Bill.

It seems like all you hear from the Republicans these days is that President Obama is at fault for everything. About the only thing they haven't blamed him for is the crucifixion of Jesus Christ!! In 2011, The president tried to introduce a big jobs bill in Congress that would help alleviate unemployment but the Republicans in Congress prevented that bill from even being voted on. Then Republicans like Mitt Romney go around saying he hasn't done enough to create jobs!! That's a bit like tying a knot in the fire fighter's hose and then blaming them for not putting the fire out fast enough!!

The Republicans in Congress act like they bear no responsibility for the slow, economic recovery despite the reality that they control half of Congress by having a majority in the House of Representatives. When are they going to stop blaming the president and do their part to work with Obama for the good of the American people?

I'm beginning to think Romney and the Republicans are willing to let the economy stagnate just so that the president gets blamed and Americans vote him out due to impatience. We've just come through the worst economic decline since the Great Depression. It took a full decade to get out of that terrible period, and yet we expect President Obama to fully repair the economy in four years? That's not too fair or realistic, especially considering how Republicans are putting their collective thumbs on the scale of economic progress to influence the election in their favor. Don't fall for their  smoke and mirrors act.

(NOTE: "Smoke and mirrors" is a metaphor that may refer to any sort of presentation by which the audience is intended to be deceived. It comes from the use of "smoke and mirrors" by magicians to fool an audience into believing something that isn't the way it appears).

Bill Clinton Gives Best Speech Yet on Obama's Record.

Bill Clinton gave the best speech as to why President Obama should be re-elected. It was full of specific details on issues ranging from health care to the debt. It also gave pointed and specific  rebuttals to Republican attacks on Obama's record. I highly recommend watching it in full (about 45 minutes) to get the most detail as to why Obama should be elected. I can't recommend it enough. It's the best, detailed speech I've seen on Obama's polices and record yet.
Here's the link to the video if you want to share it with others :http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/president-bill-clintons-full-speech-at-the-democratic-national-convention/2012/09/06/1a077f10-f7a1-11e1-8253-3f495ae70650_video.html

How Much Has Obama Added to the National Debt?

(Click on the graphic above to view it in full)

Mitt Romney's vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan is trying to shift all the blame for the national debt onto President Obama's shoulders. Ryan and the Republicans love to edit the Republican role in the national debt as if they were editing a Wikipedia page. The fact that George W. Bush put two wars, and a decade of tax cuts on the national credit card doesn't seem to matter to Republicans like Romney and Ryan. So, how just much of the national debt was raised by President Obama? Ezra Klein of The Washington Post has done the math in an article titled, "Doing the Math on Obama's Deficits.":

When Obama took office, the national debt was about $10.5 trillion. Today, it’s about $15.2 trillion. Simple subtraction gets you the answer preferred by most of Obama’s opponents: $4.7 trillion. But ask yourself: Which of Obama’s policies added $4.7 trillion to the debt? Is it fair to blame Obama for war costs four months after he was inaugurated, or tax collections 10 days after he took office?

TPJ: Klein goes into greater detail in the article, but for brevity's sake the numbers work out to President George W. Bush being responsible for $5.1 trillion of the national debt and Obama being responsible for $983 billion. I encourage you to read the article in full and study the chart provided to get a clearer idea of how Mr. Klein reached these numbers.

Are We Better Off Now than Four Years Ago? Absolutely Yes.

Are we better off than four years ago? Absolutely!! Four years ago we were losing 700,000 jobs a month and now we are adding jobs. Four years ago we were fighting two wars with no end in sight but now our troops are home from Iraq. Four years ago Osama bin Laden was alive and now he’s dead. Four years ago the stock market was at 6,000 and now it’s about 13,000. Four years ago our auto industry, which is one of the last major manufacturing industries in America, was collapsing.

Thanks to President Obama the auto industry, which supports one in every ten jobs, is back and stronger than ever. If it was left up to Mitt Romney, the auto industry would have died off entirely leaving even more non-college educated workers in the Midwest unemployed. Mitt Romney famously said off the ailing auto industry to, "let it go bankrupt." Yet, more than 1 million jobs were saved by the Obama-led emergency loans to the auto industry.

Four years ago, household wealth had dropped by $5.8 million!! Today, under President Obama, household wealth has made up that loss and has grown by $600,000. That information from the Board of Governors and the Federal Reserve.

Are we where we want to be? Of course not but we have climbed out of the hole of the Great Recession and are now moving slowly but surely forward. Now is not the time to be impatient and run back to the policies of George W. Bush, as adopted by Mitt Romney. They are the very policies that got us into the Great Recession. A vote for President Obama is a vote to continue building on the growing economic recovery.
