A few other thoughts on my reasoning behind leaving the Democratic Party:I guess, I just can't fight anymore for a party that doesn't fight for me. I know the Green Party doesn't have the best chances within our current system. However, I'm just tired of supporting a party, which takes my vote and then turns around and does the opposite of what they said to get my vote. I don't mind making compromises but with this health care "reform bill" I couldn't take it any longer. We compromised away the single-payer option, the public-option, the medicare age lowering and now we've got a bill that mandates coverage but provides no real competition, has no cost containment measures and won't cover many people. What did the conservative Democrats have to compromise despite being the minority group in our party? Nothing. I'm tired of being utterly and totally let down. People tell me that on health care reform its better to have "half a loaf of bread than none at all." Well, perhaps but not if the bread (as in this case with the health care bill) is moldy and eaten through with maggots (lobbyists). I've finally grown tired of being taken advantage of after years and years of punishment in this masochistic two party system.
The only saving grace for the Democrats at this point, in my view, is if they end money in politics but until then I'm done with both sides. When I see Democrats, in large numbers, fighting to end that -- then I'll take them seriously again. Until then, I have to make this change to save my sanity. I'm not saying I'll never vote for a Democrat ever again but it is a statement saying overall my loyalty is no longer beholden to the two-party system of corruption and minimal representation. We're not getting a full-loaf but we're not getting a half-loaf in this deal either. It's like I said, we're getting moldy, maggot infested bread crumbs. Will that satisfy you??? I know it doesn't for me and that's why I'm packing my bags for greener pastures. The Greens aren't as powerful but they do stick to their convictions unlike the corporatists in D.C. I'd rather spend my life working to affect institutional change in fighting for a multi-party system than continue to suck it up and pretend I'm not being abused and taken advantage of by the Democrats. Why continue to fight for them and send my hard earned money if they won't even listen or respect their base?

Oh well. Truth be told, the Dems would have either shunned or kicked you out as they did me HBW. God forbid a Democrat ask Democrat elected officials to act like Democrats.
Truth:
I already have. Some Dem friends have turned rather harshly against me for criticizing "The Party." Oh well is right. They're going to miss my messaging, organizing zeal and willingness to donate money through out the year.
