The report, "Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment," said right-wing extremist groups may be using the recession and the election of the nation's first African-American president to recruit members. It said, "Despite similarities to the climate of the 1990s, the threat posed by lone wolves and small terrorist cells is more pronounced than in past years."
TPJ: How is it off base to warn that the election of the first African-American president in the country might radicalize right-wing extremist groups further when most of these groups are associated with some version of racist ideology? And now we know that the report was sadly, deadly accurate. We now know that the shooter (James Von Brunn) at the Holocaust Museum in D.C. was exactly the kind of lone wolf racist bigot that the report was warning against. This recent incident of course comes on the heels of the murder of abortion provider Dr. George Tiller who was murdered in cold blood inside his church. This is pure, domestic terrorism.
The report by DHS specifically mention the bad economy pushing these already extremist groups and lone wolfs toward violence and lo and behold one of the reasons Von Brunn went off was because of finanical problems!!! Sadly I knew at the time that the report was spot on and would probably be proven so in the next few years and here we are. One Von Brunn's racist friend affirmed that he snapped in part from the election of Barack Obama, “I think the election of Barack Obama became a tremendous signal of alarm for him,” De Nugent added."
And on financial fears, "De Nugent claimed that Von Brunn might have snapped, because he believed his social security benefits were affected by the racist writings on his website, “punishing him for his politically incorrect opinions.” "The DHS report explicitly addressed white supremacists, writing that, "Threats from white supremacist and violent anti-government groups during 2009 have been largely rhetorical and have not indicated plans to carry out violent acts. Nevertheless, the consequences of a prolonged economic downturn -- including real estate foreclosures, unemployment, and an inability to obtain credit -- could create a fertile recruiting environment for rightwing extremists and even result in confrontations between such groups and government authorities similar to those in the past."
TPJ: It's sadly ironic that he is a right-wing extremist who hated the government but one of his main worries was losing benefits, (social security) which came from the government!!!
