"In contrast to John McCain's emphasis on markets and deregulation, Barack Obama's reform plan relies on an employer mandate, new public and private insurance programs, and insurance-market regulation,"
Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.
So McCain, who now poses as the scourge of Wall Street, was praising financial deregulation like 10 seconds ago — and promising that if we marketize health care, it will perform as well as the financial industry!
TPJ: He's against states have the right to establish certain regulations of their own? This from a self-proclaimed Federalist!! It's bad enough that we are all losing money and having to foot the bill for irresponsible corporations who engorged themselves on risky loans in the midst of little regulation imposed and advocated for by people like McCain and his economic buddy Phil Gramm. As well as President Bush. However, can you imagine millions of Americans losing their health care coverage over-night because McCain pushed deregulation of the health care industry?!! SCARY!!!!
John McCain doesn't know the economy, doesn't know health care and is reckless about social security too. It appears that if it was all up to him that he'd deregulate everything. Such policies have already rocked the market and now he wants his hands on our health care and social security? He's reckless, risky and out of touch. We now know how McCain would rule and with each glimpse it gets worse and worse.
