Thanks to Randi Rhodes I had some insight into one of the most absurd pieces of rhetoric out there right now being used by the Iraq war apologists. That being this spew saying something along these lines. "Well it took us over a hundred years to figure out our democracy between the revolutionary war and the civil war." John McStain used it yesterday on Meet the Press. If we read between the lines the people parroting this ridiculous thinking are actually implying that if we have to stay in Iraq for 100 years then it is worth it because it took us that long to figure the non-violence thing out!!!!

It took us 100 years, but we were a self-determining people of our government. Let them decide what they want to do on their own. After all, "rugged individualism" is what we strive for here in America according to our friends on the Right. Well, let them discover their own "rugged individualism."
Yet another attempt to shift the overton window.
Soon we will be talking about the 51st state.
Oh no they didn't! That's horrible. I've often wondered how we can be bringing democracy to a people by imposing it on them. Doesn't democracy mean they can vote our asses off their island?
Brent:
Excellent point on "rugged individual ism" and "self-determination."
Liberal:
Well Iraq is certainly getting more money then just about any state in the union it seems like. So they might as well make it the 51st state.
