So-Called Partional Birth Abortion Ban has no Exception for the Life of the Mother

O.k., I'm late on this story but I do have a few things to say. First, late term abortions should be the last resort but I do not think they should be illegal.

I am not too surprised that this right leaning court has made this decision but I am surprised that they made no exception for the life of the mother!! THAT is the real story here. THAT is amazingly barbaric, dangerous and irresponsible. And sadly all of this is lost on America as this story was pushed into the ICU unit of new stories by this over-done Virginia Tech massacre coverage.

So basically what the court is saying (and those who support this kind of radical action) is that it's better for the mother to die so that a child can live without a mother then save the woman so that she has another change at pregnancy later!! A second chance where she has a better shot at having a baby without risking her life (and her babies)!!! And what if both the mother and child die?? It's better that two lives die then to save one of the two?? That is utter insane, irrational, illogical thought!! This black and white, absolute thinking and acting has got to stop!!!!

These anti-choice people love the fetus but hate the child. As soon as they are born they do not want to have to help pay for their insurance and other medical care should they be born with AIDS or a meth/crack addiction. Many do not want to pay more to increase the quality of schooling they should receive and on and on.

And in this ruling they are obviously saying the child is more important then the mother. What if the mother had two other children? This means that they are saying it's better for these two other children to lose their mother then to save the mother for the benefit of the greater family.

This is such arcane thinking!!

Al Franken once commented that to the religious right, life begins at conception and ends at birth. This is another shining example of that.
If Jenna or Not-Jenna were raped and became pregnant, and the pregnancy endangered her life, I wonder what shrub's answer would be?

As long as they save "God's" child what's to fuss about? Right? Lying sack of crap these holier than thou sycophantic court jesters!

I like that comment from Al and excellent point on his daughters. It seems that people like to change their minds when it's one of their own in the situation.

TPM:

Yeah, who cares about the mother as long as they have their "golden child."

This ruling also destroys the "strict constructionist" argument that the conservatives use against abortion and judges that they don't like.

Using the logic of the religious right: A fire breaks out in a hospital and a lone doctor has a choice of what to save from the burning building — an incapacitated but recovering mother, or a freezer containing 300 embryos. The religious right's actions suggest they would save the three hundred frozen embryos. 300 souls versus one soul. Easy choice.

They are so irrational and illogical.

Great analogy.

ENLISTMENT FODDER

The Government must come between
A woman and her fetus,
Because--civilians--it is seen
The enemy will beat us

If we lack proper regiment
And cannot fill our forces--
Abortions such as you prevent
Remain our best resources.

You see, it has been demonstrated
By wise economists,
Unwanted babes--unloved or hated--
Would do well on our lists.

We in the military take
All brand of criminals,
Plus good ol´ boys, so that we make
A fighting force of pals.

Unwanted babes grow up to be
Most flagrant crime committers,
But that is--militarily--
Like having homerun hitters.

For what we do (at least as now
Directed) is commit
Our crimes abroad, and you´ll allow
It´s better not to quit:

The more crimes we commit abroad
The fewer done at home--
It´s almost rational, by God,
I think I´ll write a poem!
