So Iran is releasing those 15 British prisoners--thanks to diplomacy. If they were American detainees President John Wayne Bush we would have invaded and started a whole other war.We all know that we would have gone down a different road in Iraq if we had really given diplomacy a chance and especially the weapons inspectors more time.
Then we have speaker Pelosi talking to the Syrians--what a traitor!! That's basically what they are saying on the right. Yeah, it's traitorous to have an open dialog with our enemies. How can we resolve war if we do not talk and negotiate with our enemies? We all know by now that the Iraq war can not be ended militarily. The military is not built for negotiating and bringing a political solution to end a war. That takes fine tuning with specific, delicate tools that diplomats and politicians wield. The military is like a big hammer. You can not use a hammer to fix hole in the wall. It will only create another hole in the wall. Using force at this point in the war is only creating more enemies.
It's sadly ironic that even conservatives now believe that the end of the Iraq war will only occur through political means and yet they are blocking the politicians and diplomats from doing just that!! Rather they are saying that we should manage this war from the ground and leave the diplomacy and such to the generals on the ground!!! Middle school civics students understand diplomacy better then this president and "his people" do.

Imagine my surprise when a Republican delegation went to Syria and met with their leaders just before Speaker Pelosi went there. Now, the rumor is that President Bush sent them there. Imagine if that's true.
Remember, negotiation is pre-9/11 thinking according to this administration and to the Republican Party. They don't even think about why countries might fear us or dislike us.
Imagine if you are an Iranian citizen and this country is threatening to go to war with you. I don't think you are very pleased with America and you don't understand why the U.S. is picking on you. That is what the Republican Party doesn't think about. We are scared of terrorists, they are scared of the U.S. government. Until you can break that fear, we will be in the situation that we are in now on both sides.
Yes indeed, diplomacy is so pre 9-11, and the intellectually and morally superior U.S. government is the judge and final arbiter of good and evil. Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists and surrender monkeys, which in out governments opinion, is the rest of the world.
Pelosi realizes that people in the Middle East want to talk. She realizes that not all of them hate us or hate our freedoms, but that they may well have good reason to hate our current foreign policy. She wants to talk with them? Fine! They are probably willing to talk to her too. Diplomacy doesn't always work, but when one never really tries diplomacy, how do they know it won't work in a particular situation?
In one quick visit with the Syrian leader, a Democrat has accomplished more in the Middle East than neocon King Dumbya has accomplished in his miserable 6 1/2 years of squatting in the White House! Bush's blood must be absolutely boiling.
She has said impeachment is not on the table for the Dems, but hey... that doesn't mean other people might not bring up the issue. Hell, the GOP's own Chuck Hagel is even mentioning impeachment as a possibility! How can our House and Senate Republicans continue enabling Bush despite his obvious disregard for congress, the judiciary, and the Constitution?
The guy needs to be told "No", plain and simple.
We should not forget what Senator Webb of Virginia said in his rebuttal to the STate of the Union address. From the WP:
Webb concluded his speech with references to former presidents Dwight Eisenhower and Theodore Roosevelt and a warning for Bush:
"These presidents took the right kind of action for the benefit of the American people and for the health of our relations around the world. Tonight, we are calling on this president to take similar action in both areas. If he does, we will join him. If he does not, we will be showing him the way."
Nancy Pelosi is not a traitor... she is just showing Bush the way to get things done. Kudos to her!!!

Yeah I heard that GOPites went there too. To be sure though I had to find it in the British press. Gotta love that "liberal media" (rolls eyes).
Yeah I think the GOP should have all of their fliers printed in black and white because that's the only way that they think--In black and white.
Excellent point on perspective of the average citizen's view on American foreign policy.
Liberal:
Yeah. I'll take the rest of the world.
Snave:
I love that Webb comment.
