John Edwards Fires Back on National Security Questions

But he had a ready answer this week to the question of national security experience: Bush had the most experienced team in history, and still the United States ended up in a mess in Iraq. Experience, he said, is not a guarantee of good judgment.

James: Although I am an Obama man I could easily support John Edwards should he be the Democratic nominee. I think he and Obama are very similar on a lot of issues so Edwards is a close 2nd on my list. I like his economic populist message especially and the fact that he has some integrity by saying his vote for the Iraq war was a mistake. Not many politicians can admit a mistake. Just look at Bush during the debates in the 2004 campaign.

Santa Dies

dpa German Press Agency
Published: Friday December 22, 2006

London- An 82-year-old British man who delighted children for years playing the role of Santa died while entertaining excited youngsters at a club in Dundee, Scotland, one last time, it was reported Friday. "How are we going to get our presents next week if Father Christmas is ill?", one of the small children had asked after the incident.

James: Oh boy. How do you explain this one to the kiddos??? Notice the kid didn't really seem to care about Santa dying but was more concerned about getting his presents.

Congressman Goode (VA): Another Republican Bigot

This letter was sent to hundreds of constituents by the office of Republican Rep. Virgil Goode Jr. of Virginia (GOI: In response to Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison choosing to use the Quran in the swearing in ceremony of Congress).

I do not subscribe to using the Koran in any way. The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don't wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran.

GOI: Another intolerant, bigoted, Republican. He comes this close to saying that Muslims should be banned from coming to America. If the Republican leadership doesn't want this image to continue then they need to demand that Goode apologize or their silence with tell us that the Republican party indeed condones these kind of beliefs on a general level. I guess Congressman Goode believes that the Bible trumps the Constitution which says that there shall be no religious test imposed on citizens or elected officials. If that is indeed what he believes then shouldn't we be more concerned about Goode then Rep. Keith Ellison???

This is Salon's take on the flap:

As the most recent example of this un-Christian behavior, one has only to consider the outrageous racist outburst sent by Virginia Rep. Virgil Goode to his constituents this week about the horrifying possibility of more Muslims entering this country. Driven to new heights of xenophobic bigotry by the news that new Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison is going to pledge fealty (in a private ceremony) to the U.S. using a Quran rather than a Bible, Goode called for an end to illegal immigration, a reduction in legal immigration, and a rollback of "diversity visa policies" pushed by President Clinton. (Never mind that Ellison traces his American ancestry back to 1742!)

"The Ten Commandments and 'In God We Trust' are on the wall in my office," declared Goode, attempting to establish his bona fides as a true Christian. And he did just that, if his intent was to equate Christianity with hate, intolerance, racism and stupidity. What part of "Love Thy Neighbor" don't you understand, Congressman?

GOI: This in the wake of intolerant, racist Colorado Republican Congressman Tom Tancredo saying Miami is "like a third world country" because of it's diversity. As a proud Coloradoan I fully reject Tancredo being a real Coloradoan. Thanks to Shrimplate for the idea of this post.

CA Fence Building Company Hired Illegal Aliens to Build Border Fence

GOI: This story is the ultimate irony and I couldn't help but laugh my ass off. A southern California fence building company that received contracts to build portions of a border fence between the U.S. and Mexico was hiring illegal immigrants!!

Published: December 15, 2006

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 14 (AP) — A Southern California fence-building company and two executives pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to knowingly hiring illegal immigrants and agreed to pay a combined fine of $5 million, the government’s latest coup in a crackdown on businesses.

Golden State Fence, which currently employs 750 people, saw sales soar to $150 million in 2004 from $60 million in 1998, according to a biography of Mr. Kay provided by the company. Among its projects was construction of part of a 14-mile border fence in San Diego in the late 1990s.

Cheney Lauds Rumsfeld

By Washington correspondent Mark Simkin and Reuters

United States Vice President Dick Cheney says Donald Rumsfeld is the finest defence secretary in US history.

"I believe the record speaks for itself - Don Rumsfeld is the finest secretary of defence this nation has ever had."

GOI: Yeah, unfortunately for our brave soldiers, the record DOES speak for itself. He is one of the main reasons that we are stuck in that mess in Iraq. Remember this gem from Field Marshal von Rumsfeld when speaking about the invasion and following Iraq war??? "It is unknowable how long that conflict will last. It could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months." And who could forget this classic hit in speaking about where the WMD would be located withing Iraq. "We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat."

Great record.

Then again, Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld and "the gang" have had a penchant for "fixing the facts" in the past. However, (thankfully) they aren't going to be able to "fix history" and their own bloody, incompetent, mistake-riddled legacies.

Donald Rumsfeld, I wish that we hardly knew ye but unfortunately we know you all too well.

Barack Obama Slandered by CNN's Jeff Greenfield

It was amateur hour on CNN today.

I don't know about anyone else but I've finally had it with CNN's Jeff "Muckraking yellow journalist" Greenfield. His snide, under the table insults of Democrats are getting old. He thinks he's witty but comes off as a total prick if you ask me.

Today he compared Barack Obama with Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden all in one report.

First he said that Obama's attire was just like that of Iran's president. Both wear a suit jacket, a dress shirt and no tie. Only a narrow minded asshole would make THAT comparison. Who cares what he wears?!!! And how many other people wear that same attire. I've seen Bush wear that attire too but Greenfield didn't mention that comparison now did he?

Then Greenfield mentioned that Obama's middle name was Hussein and made an under the table cheap shot, weak link that it was the same as Saddam Hussein (rolls eyes). How many people in this world share the name Hussein?? The bullshit didn't stop there though.

Finally Greenfield made the lame connection that Obama rhymes with Osama. And Jeff rhymes with deaf. So what? What a dip shit.

Greenfield is a second tier reporter who's remarks reminds one of the antics of a middle school bully. With this kind of "fair and balanced" reporting, Greenfield should head right over to Fucks, er, FOX News.

If this is all haters like Greenfield can come up with on Obama then he might come out of the election rather unscathed. If he runs that is.

Saudis Reportedly Funding Sunni Arab Insurgents

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- Private Saudi citizens are giving millions of dollars to Sunni insurgents in Iraq and much of the money is used to buy weapons, including shoulder fired anti-aircraft missiles, according to key Iraqi officials and others familiar with the flow of cash.

Saudi government officials deny that any money from their country is being sent to Iraqis fighting the government and the U.S.-led coalition.

But the U.S. Iraq Study Group report said Saudis are a source of funding for Sunni Arab insurgents. Several truck drivers interviewed by The Associated Press described carrying boxes of cash from Saudi Arabia into Iraq, money they said was headed for insurgents.

Two high-ranking Iraqi officials, speaking on condition of 96 because of the issue's sensitivity, told the AP most of the Saudi money comes from private donations, called zaqat, collected for Islamic causes and charities.

Several drivers interviewed by the AP in Middle East capitals said Saudis have been using religious events, like the hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and a smaller pilgrimage, as cover for illicit money transfers. Some money, they said, is carried into Iraq on buses with returning pilgrims.

"They sent boxes full of dollars and asked me to deliver them to certain addresses in Iraq," said one driver, who gave his name only as Hussein, out of fear of reprisal. "I know it is being sent to the resistance, and if I don't take it with me, they will kill me."

The Saudi government is determined to curb the growing influence of its chief rival in the region, Iran. Tehran is closely linked to Shiite parties that dominate the Iraqi government.

Revealing X-Ray Screeners Tested

GOI: Heard about this story from Randi Rhodes. My commentary after the article.
WASHINGTON — The federal government plans this month to launch the nation's first airport screening system that takes potentially revealing X-ray photos of travelers in an effort to find bombs and other weapons.

Transportation Security Administration screeners at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport will test a "backscatter" machine that could vastly improve weapons detection but has been labeled a "virtual strip search" by the American Civil Liberties Union. Backscatter can show clear images of nude bodies.

In the upcoming airport tests, the machines will be used only on travelers who require extra screening beyond a metal detector. Those passengers will be offered the option of being photographed from the front and back by the backscatter machine or undergoing the customary pat-down by a screener.

(GOI: It's only a matter of time though before it is used to screen everyone).

Null said the machines could some day replace metal detectors if they can operate faster than the 15-20 seconds backscatter takes to screen one passenger.

GOI: Like I said, it will eventually be used to screen everyone and by everyone I mean EVERYONE. Are we prepared to allow our young kids to be x-rayed?!!! Or your 80 year old grandmother??? Or how about Father O'Connor or the Dalai Lama?!!!! And of course you know the celebrities are going to put up a fuss. I think this is a HORRIBLE idea and I hope these machines don't get testis. Oops, did I say testis?? I meant tested. Pretty soon the only way your only going to be able to fly is naked. I guess it's T and A instead of TSA.
