They Spy, They Lie and We Cry, "Foul."

By Leslie Cauley, USA TODAY

The National Security Agency has been secretly collecting the phone call records of tens of millions of Americans, using data provided by AT&T, Verizon and BellSouth, people with direct knowledge of the arrangement told USA TODAY.

The NSA program reaches into homes and businesses across the nation by amassing information about the calls of ordinary Americans — most of whom aren't suspected of any crime. This program does not involve the NSA listening to or recording conversations. But the spy agency is using the data to analyze calling patterns in an effort to detect terrorist activity, sources said in separate interviews.

GOI: I know that many of you have written about this bomb shell story today but I figured I'd still put in my two cents.

We were originally told that the NSA spying program was only collecting information on people calling internationally and focusing on possible terrorists/terrorist cells.

Noooooow of course we hear that they have been amassing information on millions of Americans. So why didn't they tell us that in the first place? Why?? Because they knew that people would rightly come "unglued" as many of us are after this new revelation!!

The President's explaination? Trust me.

The former NSA chief who instituted this program and who is currently being nominated to head the CIA's response?? Trust me.

No, I don't think so.

They don't have the capital and good will left to demand that ANY of us trust them after everything this administration has mislead and down right lied to us about! Why should believe them???

Then there is the old, but poiniant question of why wouldn't they just go to the FISA court? We are finding now that it was mostly because a FISA court wouldn't have ok'd this!! Even Fundie John Ashcroft didn't want to have ANYTHING to do with this!!

So by who's authority did they use for this kind of operation??

The DOJ claims that they couldn't get the security clearance for an investigation into this matter and so went on without one and yet every major high level investigation mandates some level clearance!! And the other scary part of this is that the intelligence community controls clearances (according to George Washington University Constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley speaking on Countdown with Keith Olbermann). They control the ability of people to investigate their own crimes and there is an OBVIOUS problem with that!!! (Again from Turley).

And boy o' boy do I hope that these phone companies are sued over this whole cover-up.

Now I'm off to write a scathing letter to my Senators and Representative. I suggest that you do the same if you are as outraged as I am on this matter.

Just coined an catchy bumper-sticker to express my feelings toward AT&T, NSA, Bu$hCo et al...

"When comes to NSA, nothing says "F*ck you Mr. Bush!" like ciphertext."
