Harriet Miers: Ass Kissing Crony Corportist

(Click on cartoon to enlarge)

AUSTIN, Tex., Oct. 10 - “You are the best governor ever - deserving of great respect,” Harriet E. Miers wrote to George W. Bush days after his 51st birthday in July 1997. She also found him “cool,” said he and his wife, Laura, were “the greatest!” and told him: “Keep up the great work. Texas is blessed.”

The documents, including many minutes of meetings of the Texas Lottery Commission, which Ms. Miers headed, shed little light on her legal thinking, but underscore her ties to Mr. Bush. Because of their closeness and her lack of a judicial record, some critics have dismissed Ms. Miers as a crony unworthy of nomination to the court but for her confidential service as the president’s lawyer.

Others question whether their bond could undermine the separation of powers of the executive and judicial branches.

GOI: Ass kissing should NOT be a prerequisite for the Supreme Court!! Assuming that this lady will get nominated and according to her statements it sounds like she would have a MAJOR bias toward Bush and his administration on the bench. And Bush still has some 3 and a half years left!!!

I don't know WHAT to make of the Miers nomination.

If she withdraws or is withdrawn or can't get confirmed a rightwing nutjob is likely to take her place.

But from everything we've heard, Miers is a rightwing soldier.

There's a lot of complaint that Miers isn't qualified, not having been a judge, but her resume is pretty impressive to me! She simply has to be brilliant lawyer.

Also Supreme Court Justices get a lot of help from the four brilliant clerks they each have each term.

Her confirmation hearing will be interesting.

Yeah, my head is spinning with this nomination.

Yeah, I don't know what to make of it either. Donated to Clinton, no qualifications, drawing fire from Conservatives...I guess Bush could have screwed it up more, but I don't know how.

Oh, and this post made me want a sandwich.

Yeah, at this point I am a bit on the side of nominating her simply because she is being attacked by so many hardcore right-wingers. Then again, are they saying such negative things as a smoke screen?? I just don't know.
