THANK-GOD!!!

GOI: Bush finally accepts responsibility for the role of the federal government it it's failures to quickly and adequately respond.

"Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government," Bush said at a joint White House news conference with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.

"And to the extent that the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility. I want to know what went right and what went wrong," said Bush.

GOI: Good GOD it's about time. Now if we can only get him to admit responsibility for misleading Americans into a war.

Thought I had last night while watching "Insannity and Colmes":

If Sean Hannity keeps squinting his eyes to appear smarter then he is then he is going to end up with one eye.

And i'm out.

EDIT: GOI: I think I was still asleep when I typed up this post this morning. Zen Unbound and Paolo have set me straight and you should read their comments because they raise critical points about this President. He needs to do more then just SAY that he is taking responsibility because his word isn't worth much of anything right now to be honest and frank. The key here (as ZU) pointed out is an INDEPENDENT COMMISSION otherwise (as Paolo points out) there will only continue to be empty words. The people of the Gulf Coast region deserve more then words.

"Taking responsibility" by only saying you're "taking responsibility" isn't "taking responsibility."

Besides, he takes responsibility with a caveat: "to the extent that the federal government didn't fully do its job right." And then he says he wants to know what went right and what went wrong.

Days ago when he said "what went right and what went wrong" it was in context with an investigation he wants launched from HIS office. I am not so sure Bush's statement means anything worthwhile.

Tom:

yeah, you're probably right.

I agree with Tom. The word of this president is not worth much of anything at all.

When Osama went from Wanted: Dead or Alive to "to be honest, I really don't think about him that much" in two years, that more or less set the tone for the integrity of this man's word.

There's another possibility, though that I had to chance to think about it during the commute home.

Maybe somehow President Bush was touched by this tragedy, and decided enough was enough with the spin, the blame-throwing and the lack of accountability, and decided to be a man and own up to his portion of the screwups.

Of course, if this is true, and Bush is standing on his own too feet, he'll be removed (by the powers that be) from power faster than you can say "Texas school book depository".

I gotta agree with zen or Tom or whoever.

Bush's big government failed, miserably.
