Isn't it interesting how everyone in any government capacity is passing the buck on this disaster relief breakdown? I want to see a government that takes responsibility for it's actions for once.
The (D) mayor of N.O., (D) Senator and governor pass the blame onto the (R) President, the President passes it on to FEMA and the DHS who in turn pass in onto the press and the actual victims!!
The fact of the matter is they all share blame in this debacle.
I am tired of hearing that "no one could have for seen such a "perfect storm." This is the same bullsh*t we heard after 9/11 and it is a big fat greasy lie. Hell, even lowly me thought that terrorists could slam an air liner into the WTC or other skycrapers.
As for the Louisiana flooding? That has been predicted for YEARS by many professors within and without Louisiana and other hurricane experts across the country. So don't tell me that it was a huge "shock" to all levels of the government because it wasn't. My wife and I have family who live an hour away from N.O. and even THEY new that would be the case if N.O. got hit with a large hurricane.
I don't want to hear ANYmore excuses.
They all bungled this one royally and yes my Republican friends I put President Clinton in the blame game too.

Yeah. They all share the blame to some extent. But ultimately it was the Bush administration's cutting their funding that led to the disaster. And then, the Bushies didn't respond. That was a federal responsibility not a local one.
The other thing that's amazing is that Katrina was a category 4 when it hit ... and it didn't hit N.O. directly, as was originally expected. They, in a sense, were luckier with the storm than they could have been. They should have been preparing for something much stronger. And should have been ready for what happened
Oh. BTW- I'm the "anonymous poster of the comment": Blake / Next Left
This is the biggest thing, to me: This catastrophe should have been the single most planned-for disaster for both the government of Louisiana/New Orleans AND FEMA/Homeland Security.
Cherloff (sic) sounded like he was making a "the dog ate my homework" excuse to his first-grade teacher with all his excuses this afternoon.
I cannot understand several things: Why wasn't a much better job done to evacuate the city of New Orleans? The 'excuse' of the FEMA director that people didn't have enough money to buy bus tickets doesn't wash. There needed to have been massive free transportation out of the city.
How in the world can Cherloff say that no one foresaw that the levees might breach!? He says that only an overflow of the levees was predicted. These are earthen levees!
Why weren't there food drops almost immediately? They KNEW that tens of thousands were taking shelter at the Superdome when the hurricane was still acoming. Food should have been amassed very early on -- and after the levee breach, delivered by boat or helicopter quickly.
I am sure a commission will look into this failure to explain the breakdown and assess blame. No doubt, Bush will slyly delay the report of the commission until after the 06 election.
I blame every politician since carter who refused to carry on his vision of alternative fuels, and conservation.
for shame.
And Bushie, for cutting funding, lying (big surprise) and not giving a shit about the american people, especially those not able to make large campaign donations, ...oh wait...that's pretty much all of us isn't it.
Blake: Yeah, I agree with you that utimately it is the fault of the Bush administration since they are the current administration.
Tom: Yeah, Cherthoff looks like an idiot right now with all of his excuses.
jessica: Spot on and SO true.
