WASHINGTON - Beset with criticism over the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, President Bush said Tuesday he will oversee an investigation into what went wrong and why — in part to be sure that the country would withstand more storms or even a weapons of mass destruction attack.
GOI: Ummmm. Does this stink to anyone else as worse as the flood waters in New Orleans?? This is the definition of "putting the fox in charge of the hen house" or the suspect in a criminal case being his/her own judge. Bush rules with an iron fist, just look at this picture!! He learned from the 9/11 commission I guess because now he is just going to investigate himself. How convenient.
"What I intend to do is lead an investigation to find out what went right (GOI: Did ANYTHING go right??) and what went wrong," Bush said. "We still live in an unsettled world. We want to make sure we can respond properly if there is a WMD (weapons of mass destruction) attack or another major storm."
But Bush said now is not the time to point fingers and he did not respond to calls for a commission to investigate the response.
GOI: Of course he doesn't want fingers pointed because they are being squarely pointed at himself and his buddies at FEMA and DHS!!
"One of the things people want us to do here is play the blame game," he said. "We got to solve problems. There will be ample time to figure out what went right and what went wrong."
GOI: What I want to know is, "When IS the right time??" Thank everything that is holy that Congress is planning their own investigation. I have some doubts, however, that the Republican dominated body is going to do anything but white-wash the federal government's role and scape-goat the mayor of N.O.

I just saw that and literally almost threw my cup of pens across the room...
The absurdity of this government...I just...I'm speechless. I feel like we are being held captive on a roller coaster without seat belts. Thom Hartman (very trusted author and radio host) feels that we are sliding towards a depression. So far he has been right about everything else...
I'm scared...I'm truly and utterly pee my pants scared.
Yeah, I've been so furious over the last week and two days that I bet my blood pressure has raised significantly.
I'm scared too. We are being held hostage by these crooks and criminals. The thing that really worries me right now is that the whole world is watching, including the terrorist. And here we sit with our ass wide open right now. Running around in chaos with no leadership. Prime fucking targets.
I just choked on my water. Unbelievable...I really don't know what else to say.
crimnos: yeah, so much for checks and balances I guess. I just emailed all of my senators and my rep. to tell them how pissed off I am right now and that I will remember all of this in the mid-term elections if they support the President right now in his investigation of himself.
It's like the fox watching the henhouse....
Hm, sounds like a good plan. I think I might be doing the same thing myself, though my reps are all Republican. Sometimes I feel like I'm slamming my head against a brick wall.
Oh yeah, this ought to be good.
I'm sure the indictment will be damning.
I wonder if this means Clinton could have investigated himself?
