Over half a dozen (7) U.S. soldiers have died in western Iraq today according to USA Today. They are the only major American newspaper reporting that these 7 deaths have pushed the overall death toll to over 1,800 (1,801) to be exact. Actually I've heard that a lot more have died then this number reflects because they don't count you as a "war death" if you die in Germany or some place else where you might have been flown to for surgery, etc.
The L.A. Times is just reporting the combat deaths which sits at 1,656. I originally found the exact figures from Al Jazeera first!!
The two big newspapers: New York Times and The Washington Post didn't bother to post the 1,801 total. This is probably because these two papers have started to carry the water for the Bush administration over the war and are too scared to report the actual figures. Although The Wash Times reported it this way:
The deaths brought to 17 the number of military personnel who have died in the past week, many of them in the same region.
About 60 have been killed over the last month, according to wire service counts.
GOI: People deserve to know the body count in a war and it shows respect for every life that was lost. We want to know just how many of our brave men and women have sacrificed their lives for this illegal war.
