The President is having a press conference this morning with the leader of India and he said (regarding the Valerie Plame leak) that he would fire anyone found engaging in a crime. Now isn't that a "flip-flop" Mr. Bush?? (Waves flip-flops around). Before you said that you would fire anyone found leaking information! So, which is it Mr. President??
Also, what is the role of Lewis "Scooter" Libby in the leaks? Hearing reporter Matt Cooper over the weekend it appears that Libby might be the second source of the leak. This is interesting because Libby is the chief of staff in the office of the Vice-President Dick Cheney.
"Indeed, the next day the vice president's chief of staff, I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby, told me Cheney had not been responsible for Wilson's mission," Cooper wrote, adding later that in August 2004, he told the grand jury that he asked Libby on background whether he had heard anything about Wilson's wife's sending her husband to Niger."
"Libby replied, 'Yeah, I've heard that, too, or words to that effect," Cooper wrote, adding that Libby did not reveal her name or where he had heard about Plame.
GOI: So, where did Libby hear about Plame?? Maybe from the V.P.??? Or Rove?
Stay tuned.

James,
This is interesting -- from Meet the Press yesterday, from something Tim Russert said:
When one is given classified clearance, they are asked to sign an oath, and they are given a briefing book with form--Standard Form 312, it's called. And if you read this briefing book, it says this: "Before...confirming the accuracy of what appears in the public source, the signer of"--"SF 312 must confirm through an authorized official that the information has, in fact, been declassified. If it has not...confirmation of its accuracy is also an unauthorized disclosure."
I think Rove and Libby are in trouble. But the true crime, of course, is the effort of the White House to get back at perceived enemies in an effort to hype the justification for the war in Iraq.
Tom,
Thanks for the Meet the Press quote. It really helps put things into perspective. I agree that these two are back on the hot seat. And that the real crime was the retaliation of the White House over their exposure of thin evidence on their WMD push.
James, your flip-flop is genius!!
