A Victory For America and Democracy

This from The New York Times:

In a rare retreat, the Republican-led House on Wednesday overturned contentious rule changes made to the House ethics process, with Republicans saying they surrendered to the Democrats to try to restore a way to enforce proper conduct in the House.

"I am willing to step back," said Speaker J. Dennis Hastert of Illinois, the moving force behind ethics revisions forced through by the majority in January.

This is a partial victory, however, until the all five of the Republicans on the House ethics committee are replaced (or recuse themselves) because their financial links to Tom DeLay bias them.

I just called Hastert's office to give him a comment of support for moving to overturn the contentious rule changes but to also urge him to replace these Republicans with ones who do not have a financial link to Tom DeLay in order to avoid any bias of the panel.

Here is the phone number if you want to call Speaker Hastert's office to leave a message on this issue: (202) 225-2976

I urge you to call because they DO actually listen to what people are saying. Americans have power in numbers and I assure you if we clog Hastert's office with comments, he will listen.
