P.M. Ariel Sharon of Israel wants to pull-out 8,800 Jewish settlers from the Palestinian dominated "Gaza strip."
I was shocked to learn of this development in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Sharon has been one of the heaviest allies of the Zionist movement within Israel and abroad. He has repeatedly pushed away opportunities for easing violence and tensions between the two sides. Now, however, he seems to finally be seeing the importance of a Palestinian state. This from, The Guardian:
"Mr Sharon made some conciliatory remarks toward the Palestinians. 'Even today, we regret the loss of innocent lives in your midst. Our way is not one of intentional killing,' he said.
Israeli commentators said Mr Sharon's speech was remarkable, both for his gestures toward the Palestinians and his unprecedented criticism of settlers, whom he accused of suffering from a 'messianic' complex."
Thump! (sound of James falling off his chair and hitting his head on the desk. He crawls back into his chair and sits stunned with eyes wide open in a trance while drool builds dangerously close to cascading down his chin from an open mouth).
(shakes head to gain lucidity) Wow. I mean WOWWWW!!!!
Ariel Sharon sounding like a diplomat?!! God, I better take some ginger because my head is spinning faster then my head after a weekend bender.
Whats more, ( Jesus H.?! Can my heart take anymore?!) Israel's largest paper, Yedioth Ahronoth found that 64% of the Israeli public supports disengagement while 26% oppose it.
(falls off chair again...)
(Gets back up while blinking and rubbing eyes)
God?! Is that you?! Am I dead?! Am I in heaven or hell?! What's going on here?!! Oh. I think I blacked out again there for a moment.
O.k., this is getting scary. Dare I say that I am actually feeling a glimmer of hope that this conflict will FINALLY resolve itself?!
